In 2008 Hovis departed from the "boy on a bike" format by commissioning an advert to show Britain's
changing social landscape since the product's release 122 years ago.
The advert lasts 122 seconds (1 for each year since the product was first made) It was shot in Liverpool
and required over 750 extras and is one of the U.K's most expensive advertisements ever made.
Phil was commissioned to score the advert which sees a boy travelling through the century's major historical events.
The score had to fit the drama both in terms of period and mood without being overly stylistic and clichéd.
Collaborating with members of his band Working for a Nuclear Free City and a small string ensemble the result is a
dynamic piece which flows and develops as the advert unfolds but also retains a strong sense of thematic style.
In 2009 the commercial was voted "Advert Of The Decade" by ITV.
